Spotlight Interview with Debut Author Shirley Kufeldt

American Chronicle – VS Grenier – 11/24/2012

Shirley Kufeldt grew up with three older sisters and an identical twin sister in the Chicago area in the 1950´s. Her father died when she was 12-years-old and her oldest sister was a senior in high school. Her mother was left to handle their father´s business and some real estate property in Chicago.

After her first daughter was a year old she began attending Bible studies at a local church, learning on 1 John and Romans, then a Discovery Class which ultimately led to accepting Christ.

In the Fall of 1997 she participated in a Christian support group –Making Peace with Your Past. “We had a licensed therapist lead our group and this study really opened up my eyes to my childhood and in 1999, I began attending Celebrate Recovery. Learning a lot about codependency and boundaries was a big benefit,” said Kufeldt.

This is what lead her into journaling and later putting together her book series, Bible Bites: Personal Devotions. “For too many people, reading the Bible, God´s Word, is too much of a challenge so they neglect picking up a Bible and do not learn what God has to say about any number of topics. Too many people only know God as judge who only punishes sinners, but have a misguided conception of His love, grace and compassion. They blame God for the sins others commit against them. They live their lives based on misconceptions about God, and a secular lifestyle is the result,” shared Kufeldt.

“We each look differently at Scripture, and respond to and reflect on God´s Word based on ‘where we are today.’ In a non-threatening manner, Seekers are introduced to God as the One who loves them unconditionally and pursues them by answering prayer His Way: Definitely, Denied, Delayed, Differently, Distributed a bit at a time.”

Becoming an author was never a lifetime goal, but over the years, Shirley learned she had certain talents and has been developing them over the past few years in some of her personal interests. “I´ve been attending Bible studies since 1980 and over the years have been encouraged to journal my walk with Christ. I had tried a number of formats but no format ever lasted very long until the economic problems that millions of Americans experienced in the past four years. About ten years ago, I had purchased a journal from a friend and finally pulled it out to journal at the end of 2008. I completed the journal in a month and I wanted more. I had finally found something that worked for me, but it was over. So I asked God what He wanted me to do, first because of finances and, second because I finally enjoyed journaling,” said Kufeldt.

Each paperback journal is small enough to fit in a purse, backpack, pocket or briefcase. There are two pages for prayer requests and each journal is a specific theme with over 50 scriptures, one or two for each day for journaling. “I´ve been journaling in this format for three years and have developed the habit of combining scripture and my prayer requests,” said Kufeldt.

There are four journals to start: MEET GOD AND HIS SON, THE WOW FACTOR, GOALS THAT LEAD TO SUCCESS, andAMERICA, LAND THAT I LOVE.

About SHIRLEY KUFELDT

Everyone says that a Christian should journal their prayer requests. Several years ago I finally found a system that works for me and have been journaling my prayer requests ever since. I became a Christian in my 30's but wonder how I ever missed the invitation to accept Christ prior to that time. Bible Bites makes it easy to be exposed to, and respond to, one Scripture each day. It's like a having a conversation with God!
